The Georgia Department of Transportation scheduled three public outreach meetings as part of a major update to the state’s Rail Plan. The current plan was published in 2009. A comprehensive update was originally scheduled for completion in 2011.
After a couple of inches of snow brought Metro Atlanta’s roads to a standstill in January, the announcement of this update is welcomed news. Although the plan covers all types of rail use, this update is an opportunity for the state to embrace the rebirth of passenger rail service in Georgia.
The meetings are scheduled for April 15th at Dalton City Hall, April 16 at the Atlanta Regional Commission’s office in Atlanta, and April 17 at the Valdosta City Hall Annex. Each meeting is scheduled from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Visit GDOT’s Rail Plan webpage to view the schedule, to find the address of each meeting, and to contact Rail Plan representatives.
