Forest Service to Update Timber Project at Duncan Ridge

The US Forest Service has proposed a project that will cut up to approximately 3,500 acres on the steep slopes of Duncan Ridge in the Chattahoochee National Forest.  The Coopers Creek Watershed Project calls for the use of commercial logging, non-commercial thinning, burning, and chemical herbicides to open dense forest into early successional and woodland-type habitats.  A couple of weeks ago I traveled to Duncan Ridge where I took these pictures in and around proposed commercial logging sites.

The Forest Service is expected to provide an updated proposal before the end of the year when the agency releases a Draft Environment Assessment that could reduced the scope of the project.
