Georgia Seeks Public Input on Parks Spending

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources anounced last week that it is seeking public opinion on park use for a report that will inform how federal dollars could be spent on state parks across Georgia.

The Georgia Plan for Outdoor Recreation will be delivered to the US Department of the Interior when it is completed next fall to maintain Georgia’s eligibilty to received money from the Federal Land and Water Conservation Fund.

The Land and Water Conservation Fund, a program that provides financial support to state parks and conservation programs with money from royalties paid on oil and natural gas leases on federal land, expired on September 30th after Congress failed to renew it.

The Georgia DNR did not address the expiration of the fund or whether the halt to the federal program would affect the state’s plans to complete the outdoor recreation report.
